Meanwhile, Maisie spends her time seaside entertaining her admirers. Pierre, Marcel and Alphonse all line up for a turn on her lap. Bobby is devastated. Didn’t he make her promise? Oh to feel the crush of one’s powerlessness as it lays heavy over the illusion of power! Oh to move a mountain! But Maisie is young and so is her flesh. She doesn’t know yet what it means to lose but her heart murmurs the story and so she makes her bed, steals herself. Her father is intubated in the hospital and she is about to lose so much.
